The St Hilary Playgroup, set up by Monica Dennis and Jenny Labaton, opened on Monday 11 September 1989 after a hectic summer planning and preparing for the big day. Many fundraising events had been held in order to raise money for equipment and many toys were also donated by friends.

Below are some photographs - and click here to see the wonderful scrapbook that is hosted on the People's Collection Wales website.

The children who attended were from the village and further afield. From the village there was Claire Dennis (Ffynnon Wen), Martha Steadman (Church Cottage) Freddy Hitchcock (Ochiltree), Jonathan Wells (Sefton House) and Duncan Stead (Sefton House).

St Hilary resident Clare Pullon used to help at playgroup on a regular basis along with Janet, who lived at Village Farm.

As well as a variety of activities being held in the village hall we often took the children out and about to see the horses, sheep etc.

The playbus came to the village one day and Rubicon Dance dropped by on another occasion!

We even went on a coach trip in the summer months to Southerndown beach – so much more entertaining in the rain!

The playgroup was taken over by Melanie Molyneux in 1991 when it was transferred to the village hall in Welsh St Donats.
