During lockdown Monica Dennis has filled the days making two scrolls in fabric and stitch and embellished with buttons and charms – held on a vintage bobbin.

The first, which can be viewed by clicking here, logs the activities that she chose to fill the days whilst confined to barracks – walking, baking, sewing, gardening and foraging. This scroll features in an e-book recently published by the Gawthorpe Textile Collection and has been accepted for an online exhibition at Arts Central Gallery, Barry.

The second scroll pictured below records some of the activities that took place in the village during lockdown – collection of NHS toiletries for NHS staff and patients, the sunflower competition, the Easter Tree of Good Wishes (messages from Mary Thomas and the family at Grove Cottage feature on the scroll), VE Day and the St Hilary Foragers Produce Market - Beryl Price, Joan Davies, Caroline Neudegg and Rob Lang feature in the photographs. Quite an impressive list considering the situation!

You can read more about the background to these and lots of other fantastic work by Monica on her blog.
